02 / START WITH YOUR SPACE

What Do You Need to Watch?

Start with the places you want to see. One camera position may cover an entrance, while separate areas can need separate cameras.

ONE ENTRANCE

Start with the approach

A fixed view can suit a defined entrance. Position it to see the approach, and check what walls or objects may block.

KEEP IN MIND

Check the view before mounting. Test the proposed position in the app before fixing the camera in place.

A MOVING APPROACH

Follow the route, consider the limits

A driveway can benefit from a wider view or tracking. Choose the mounting position first, then check whether the camera can follow the area you need.

KEEP IN MIND

Tracking can adjust the view. It cannot see through obstructions or show every direction at once.

SEPARATE AREAS

Two areas. Separate positions.

Separate areas often need separate camera positions. Two lenses on one device do not replace cameras installed at the front and back of a home.

KEEP IN MIND

The house blocks the view between the front and back. Plan each camera position around the area it needs to watch.

Illustration only. Actual coverage depends on the camera, mounting position and obstructions.

One device, two lenses

Two lenses share one installation location.

Multiple camera positions

Separate cameras can watch separate areas.

Tracking

Tracking changes the view as a subject moves; it does not remove physical obstructions.

03 / CHOOSE YOUR SETUP

How Your Camera Setup Works

Three things to check: power, connection and what’s included.

01 POWER

Battery

Charging cable Camera + battery

Battery: Recharge when needed.

Solar + Battery

Sunlight Solar panel Camera + battery

Solar + Battery: Sunlight helps recharge the battery.

Solar charging depends on sunlight and compatibility. It does not mean continuous recording.

02 CONNECTION

Direct connection

Camera Wi-Fi router

HomeStation system

Camera HomeStationPower + network required Router

Connection depends on the model. Check the supported Wi-Fi band and signal before mounting.

03 PACKAGE

Standalone

Works without a separate HomeStation.

Kit with HomeStation

Cameras and HomeStation in one bundle.

Camera count and accessories vary by package.

Add-on

Requires a compatible existing system.

Generic illustrations, not specific product or package contents.

Check compatibility and included accessories before buying.

04 / RECORDING & STORAGE

What Gets Recorded—and Where?

Understand when footage is saved, where it lives and what to check before buying.

What happens when someone walks past?

Detect an event

When a supported event is detected, the camera can trigger an event recording.

Concept illustration of a saved security camera event clip available for review.

Review the saved clip

The saved event clip can be reviewed later using the supported app and storage setup.

Event recording saves individual clips, not an uninterrupted recording of the whole day. Behaviour varies by model and settings.

Concept illustrations. Camera appearance and app interface vary by model.

Three terms worth knowing

Live view

Watch what the camera sees now.

Event recording

Review saved clips from detected events.

Continuous recording

Check model support

Review an uninterrupted recording over a supported period. Requires a model that supports it.

Solar charging does not confirm continuous recording support.

Where does the footage go?

Built-in storage

Camera Internal storage

Footage is saved in the camera’s internal storage.

Check capacity and whether storage can be expanded.

microSD storage

Camera microSD card

Compatible cameras save footage to a supported memory card.

Check card support, capacity limits and whether a card is included.

HomeStation storage

Camera HomeStation Storage

Compatible cameras save footage to a separate HomeStation.

Check camera compatibility, included storage and expansion support.

Storage options depend on the model. A HomeStation or memory card is not included with every package.

How much footage can I keep?

Retention depends on storage capacity, recording quality, clip length and how often events occur.

Will I need a subscription?

Check whether the features you need work with local storage and whether any optional services carry a fee.

06 / BEFORE YOU INSTALL

Check the Spot Before You Mount

A few checks now can help you choose a better camera position.

  1. 01 / Check the view

    View & obstructions

Test the proposed position in the app before fixing the camera in place. Check that the area you want to watch is visible and not blocked.

  2. 02 / Check the connection

    Signal & setup

Follow the model’s setup instructions and test the connection at the intended mounting position. Check any HomeStation placement requirements.

  3. 03 / Plan for power

    Sunlight & access

For solar-assisted setups, check sunlight at the panel position. For rechargeable cameras, leave practical access for charging and maintenance.

  4. 04 / Check the mounting requirements

    Surface & installation

Confirm the mounting surface, required fixings and the model’s outdoor installation instructions before drilling.

07 / COMMON QUESTIONS

Security Camera Questions, Answered

A few final checks before you choose your setup.

Can a single camera work without a HomeStation?

Some cameras work independently, while add-on models require a compatible HomeStation. A product sold as one camera is not necessarily a standalone camera. Check the model requirements and package contents before buying.

What is the difference between a dual-lens camera and a two-camera kit?

A dual-lens camera has two lenses in one device at one mounting position. A two-camera kit contains two camera units that can be installed at separate positions. Some kits contain dual-lens units, so check both the number of devices and the lens configuration.

Do solar security cameras record continuously?

Solar charging does not confirm continuous recording support. Check the camera’s recording mode separately. Event recording saves triggered clips, while continuous recording requires a model that explicitly supports it.

Does a solar panel mean I will never need to recharge the camera?

Do not assume that it does. Solar charging depends on available sunlight, panel placement and camera use. Follow the model’s charging instructions and plan access for charging or maintenance if needed.

Do I need a subscription to save recordings?

Check the exact model and the features you want to use. Local recording may operate without a cloud subscription, but storage hardware may be required or sold separately. Confirm any optional service fees before buying.

How long will my recordings be saved?

There is no single retention period for every setup. It depends on usable storage, recording quality, clip length and event frequency. Check the model’s storage management settings and save important clips before they are deleted or overwritten.

Can I add any Baseus camera or solar panel to my existing setup?

Do not assume that products from the same brand are automatically compatible. Confirm the exact camera, HomeStation and accessory models before buying. Add-on cameras and separate solar panels may have specific compatibility requirements.

View the Baseus A1 Solar Panel
Will recordings and live view still work if my internet goes down?

Local recording, remote live view and notifications are different functions. What continues to work depends on the model, power supply and which part of the connection is unavailable. Check the model’s offline behaviour rather than assuming local storage means every feature works without internet.
